Video: DIY Garbage Disposal Solutions

AMERICAN CANYON — Host, Sarah Rutan: Whether your garbage disposal is jammed or just smells bad, you’ll be glad to know there’s a simple solution. Today we’re in American Canyon with Diamond Certified Expert Contributor Lamine Elabed of LW Construction & Handyman Services to learn more.

Diamond Certified Expert Contributor, Lamine Elabed: I’m here today to give you a few tips regarding garbage disposal. It does get stuck sometimes, it doesn’t turn when you flip the switch. A lot of times all you need to do is reset the switch right here — you just push it once, remove it, and turn the power on again and it should be okay.

If that doesn’t happen, it’s still clogged, then you have this mechanical hex key right here, there’s an opening here at the bottom. You open — you turn the power off, of course, before you do that — and then you crank it left or right, and that should clear the food stuff that’s actually stuck in there.

A lot of times when you go on vacation, and you haven’t used it for a week, two weeks, whatever, and you come back and it stinks a little bit — to clean it a little bit, you fill up the sink with hot water and a little bit of vinegar, and then — you have this turned off of course — and then when you remove the plug to the sink, to the drain in the sink, and then you turn this one on, it will swirl all inside and clean the top as well as the bottom. That should do it. That’s it for the garbage disposal tip.
