A lot of roofers when promising a shingle, will go out and buy whatever the cheapest components they can find to that roof. So, if that means cheap felt, they put on cheap felt. And if they can find a generic brand of ventilation, they do that.
A good contractor should be able to offer you a complete roofing system. So, if Owens Corning or CertainTeed shingles are what you choose, then you use that entire line. If you choose a CertainTeed shingle, let&#8217;s use CertainTeed felt, CertainTeed starter, CertainTeed ventilation and, obviously, the shingle itself. And if you choose Owens Corning, then use Owens Corning felt, starter, and ventilation.
This provides you the assurance that the manufacturer will back up your entire roof system, and in most cases, a qualified contractor can usually give you an extended warranty on the actual workmanship of their product.
