Video: Choosing a Hardwood Floor Cleaning Product

DANVILLE — Host, Sarah Rutan: Prior to cleaning your hardwood floors, it’s important to make sure you’re using the right product. To learn more, we’re in Danville with Scott Peck of Danville Hardwood Company Incorporated, speaking on behalf of Diamond Certified Expert Contributor Dan Yorke.

Scott Peck: Installing hardwood floors is a big investment, so proper care and maintenance are important. Whether you’ve installed a solid hardwood floor or a durable engineered, it’s important to know which cleaning product to use. It’s also important to know which finish was used on your floor. Then you would know which cleaning product to use. We have three different finishes for our floors: urethane, UV oil, and oil-based. All three take a different cleaning product.

If you were to buy a urethane finished floor, we would refer you to our Bona cleaning kit. You would just spray the mophead once and wipe the floor clean. Other oil floors actually require the manufacturer’s cleaning product – while our Provenza, they provide us with a floor care kit and our DuChateau with a maintenance oil kit. This is very important and critical to keeping your floors in proper care and looking their best.
