Video: Silicone Roofing Membranes

CAPITOLA — Joe McNair: The roofing industry has developed a lot over recent years, especially as it applies to a low slope or a flat roof system. In particular, we’re taking more and more advantage of silicone fluid applied membranes. For a lot of great reasons, they tend to be a lower reroof cost. Many times you can indefinitely sustain the life of your existing roof by going over it with a fluid applied membrane. These membranes are very easy to maintain, they’re hostile to growth, and the silicone coatings are typically impervious to standing water. They have a tremendous life expectancy. We’ve seen anecdotally that they last 30, 40 or even more years than that. And the other thing about them is they’re energy efficient. A white Title 24 compliant silicone membrane can radically cool the roof temperature and thereby making the comfort level of the home inside much more appealing. So, just so you know, fluid applied silicone membranes are a great advance to our industry, and perhaps something you’ll be able to take advantage of.
