You’ve gotten two or three prices, and as you’re looking at the bids from the different roofers, you’re seeing a lot of variation between the different bids. How do you sort through that? I think one thing you should consider doing many times is, solicit the help of the roofers to help explain the differences between why one guy’s price is so high and another is so low. Hide the price that’s on the contract from roofer A and send his bid to roofer B, let roofer B and do vice versa. Cover the pricing so you protect that aspect of the process. But let the other roofers give input as to why their proposal may have more merit or benefit than the other one.

Also, pay attention to roofers who pay attention to the details of your roof. As they say, the devil is in the details and there’s a lot of things that can be missed. Roofers can miss them, some guys will catch them, but just make sure there’s been a significant attention to details as it relates to your roof.

And remember too, that nobody does anything the cheapest. We don’t go to the cheapest restaurants, cheapest vacation, buy the cheapest cars, cheapest clothes. We always buy value for the money. So, remember this, when it comes to buying a roof, going cheap isn’t where you want to start that ethic in your life.
