When it comes to extending the life of your water heater, there are two things you can do. One is annual flushes. Flushing out a water heater consists of draining out all of the water that's in the tank. This will slow down the growth of rust inside of your tank. The second thing you can do is ensure that your water pressure is below 80 psi.
This can be accomplished by installing a pressure reducing valve where your water service enters the building. A qualified plumber can install a pressure reducing valve and this will not only extend the life of your water heater, but also your plumbing fixtures. So remember, there are two key things you can do to extend the life of your water heater.
One, annual flushes. And two, make sure that your water heater stays below 80 PSI.
