. But of course, with COVID, we, you know, you just always wear your mask all the time, and then we always wipe down. We work very clean so prior to COVID, and during COVID, we were using our sanitary wipes, our cleaners cleaning door knobs, cleaning anywhere we touched, and really if it was a big enough project. So during this time, sometimes we were doing some kitchen remodels, bathroom remodels. We would actually um tape off those sections of the house and use the air purifier as well, but that's a normal practice for us anyway so we kind of just continue to do what we've always done, maybe stepped it up a little bit more, right? Well, we've been in business about 25 years, and actually Maurice has been a licensed general contractor as well as a licensed plumber for well since 1995, actually. But I always like to tell the story about how we came to be called "We Love Small Jobs". It's kind of a fun story. Maurice many years ago had a customer who was frustrated because she couldn't get anybody to assist her with her project, and so when Maurice finally came out she was explaining to him that it's just a small job and I'm having such a hard time finding some help. And he said, well, we love small jobs. So after that sometime he went and added made that actually a tagline on the trucks, and then people started saying hey there's that "We Love Small Jobs" company or that "We Love Small Jobs" guy, and even when they would call they would say hey this is the "We Love Small Jobs" company right? That's a great question, - Uh, it depends, so if you have a small job that you're using let's say you want someone to hang pictures, uh maybe you need the tub re-caulked, um maybe you have a piece of wood on the baseboard you need that nailed in. Those are just some examples but certainly you could call a handyman or I would say an unlicensed person. It's not going to really make much of a difference on those type of project projects, however, if you need help in either plumbing, electrical, um any major carpentry repair like uh, you know dry rot repair for example, I would absolutely wholeheartedly call a licensed person. You will get your uh initial estimate, slash proposal, and then they start to do the work. Well, that initial proposal is based on a visual inspection so you know last night I haven't heard of any superman seeing through walls contractors so based on that visual expression inspection they're going to give you a price and once they start the work that's when they'll see if there is extra work needed. Preferred maintenance is when you put off maintain it could be anything but in this case we're talking typically about houses so um a lot of times as your house get older you may need to put a new roof on, maybe you need a new foundation um maybe you have a door to your garage that's dry rotted so if you when you start noticing immediately start noticing if you take care of it then it's typically going to be a lower cost but of course anything you put off till later it's going to cost more and that's why deferred maintenance costs more typically, one because it's more damage so maybe your door that was a little damaged but now you waited you know another year or two now the whole thing is damaged, person who performs a home inspection cannot provide you with pricing and that's by law they cannot do that because that's a conflict of interest obviously if I'm a home inspector and I go in and say oh my gosh yeah you're going to need new all new plumbing and you know I'll do the work for you it'll cost this much that's a conflict of interest so they're two different services and they need to be performed by two different people. Uh I always advise if you're going to buy a property that needs significant work get a home assessment you do have to pay for that but better you pay a couple hundred dollars upfront before you make an offer on a house and then you realize this house needs about 50 000 or 100 000 worth of work because of things that you didn't know what their costs were what the cost was for those items, you may have been aware of the issue but you didn't know what the cost was to repair the issues and it is also another way to negotiate the sale price if you have an opportunity to do so.
