Questions to Ask a Termite Control Company

After you have called several local termite control companies, it’s time to take the next step and interview your favorite choices in person. Consider asking the following questions:

  • How soon can you start the termite extermination?
  • Does the work come with a written warranty? If so, for how long?
  • Once you start treatment, how long will it take to complete?
  • Do I need to move out of my home while you work?
  • How long will I need to stay out of the area?
  • Is there a drying time for any wet chemicals?
  • Will there be any lingering odors?
  • Will repeat treatments be necessary?
  • If the problem doesn’t go away after you have completed treatment, will I be charged if you have to come back and do it again?
  • Will I need to wash all surfaces before using them after you have applied treatment?
  • Will you clean up after you finish working?
  • Are you insured and/or bonded? (Ask to see a certificate of insurance and find out if the company carries complete insurance coverage with adequate coverage that includes an “errors and omissions” clause that covers accidents like inadvertent staining on carpets or breakage of items.)

Questions to Ask a Termite Control Company’s References

In addition to interviewing termite control company representatives, you should ask for a list of references—past customers you can interview about their experiences with the company. Any termite control service should be happy to provide you with a list of five to 10 recent customers whom you can contact.

Here are some questions to ask past customers of a termite control company:

  • Were the technicians courteous and helpful?
  • Did they explain what they were going to do and encourage you to ask questions?
  • If you needed this type of service again, would you use this company?
  • Were you satisfied with the company’s work?
  • Was the work completed in a timely manner?
  • Did the company provide you with termite control options?
  • Do you feel the price was fair for the work that was done?
  • Would you recommend this company to others who have experienced termite infestation issues?

Keep in mind that references provided by termite control companies can be cherry-picked or even fake, so you’ll need to use your best judgment when researching them. To get greater assurance, consider hiring a Diamond Certified termite control company. All Diamond Certified companies have passed an in-depth rating process that most other companies can’t pass. Part of this process involves conducting telephone interviews of actual customers. References provided by a termite control company are not equal in value to the large, random sample of customers surveyed during the Diamond Certified rating process. So, if you want quality, you’ll have confidence choosing a Diamond Certified company.
