While ongoing maintenance is important for any tile product, the particulars of care vary amongst products like ceramic, porcelain and stone. Here are some basic guidelines to follow when caring for your tile:

Ceramic/porcelain
While ceramic and porcelain tiles tend to be low-maintenance, being proactive will help keep them looking their best. In addition to regular cleaning, you should seal your tiles on a regular basis—at least once a year, preferably twice. Remember, when you seal ceramic or porcelain, you should actually be sealing the grout, which is susceptible to discoloration from accumulated dirt and grime.

Stone
Stone differs from ceramic or porcelain products in that it’s extremely porous. For this reason, when sealing stone tiles, you want to seal the entire surface, including the tile and grout alike. Routine cleaning will help you maintain the aesthetic beauty of your stone tiles.

Regardless of the type of tile you have, it’s crucial to use cleaning and sealing products that are specified for the application.
