Yohai Rubin: A Door of Opportunity
By James Florence, Diamond Certified Resource Reporter
While most people spend their lives looking for a window of opportunity, Yohai Rubin found it through a door—more specifically, a garage door. “I moved to the United States from Israel in 2012,” he recounts. “A friend told me about an opportunity to work for a garage door company, so I decided to give it a try. I trained to be a service technician, and within a few months, I became quite good at it. Plus, I really liked it. I especially enjoyed seeing the look of satisfaction in the customers’ faces when I fixed their doors. I saw a lot of potential in the industry and dreamed of starting my own business. In 2020, I partnered with my friend and co-worker, Elad Levi—we were the top technicians at the company we worked at—to create Palms Garage Doors.”
Today, Yohai says his favorite part of his job is saving the day for homeowners in distress. “I like coming to the rescue when a garage door problem is causing a major issue for someone, like if the door won’t open and they can’t get their car out. It just feels good when you’re able to help someone, and they’re so appreciative and happy.”
A resident of San Jose, Yohai spends his free time on a variety of pastimes. “I’m very physically active and I enjoy hiking, weightlifting, yoga, and martial arts. I also like going to concerts and other live events. And I love to travel. I’ve traveled quite a bit, including all over South America.”
In regard to a professional philosophy, Yohai emphasizes the value of continual improvement. “I believe when you give good to the world, the world gives it back to you,” he explains. “That’s why I’m always striving to be better, both in my personal life and in my profession. At Palms Garage Doors, we’re always evolving and improving our quality of service. Our long-term goal is to create a huge CRM [customer relationship management] with many returning customers so we can continue to grow and be successful.”
