Nathan Weizmann: Building Toward Success
By Matt Solis, Editor
Nathan Weizmann wasn’t sure what his life would look like after he fulfilled his military service, but it didn’t take long for a family connection to lead him toward a newfound passion. “In 2015, I was fresh out of the military trying to figure out what I wanted to do as a civilian,” he recalls. “My brother, Eric, was managing a construction company and said, ‘You’ve always been handy—why don’t you try this?’ I started as a journeyman and worked on multiple types of projects, where I learned all the different ways to remodel kitchens and bathrooms. It was rewarding work and I developed a passion for it.”
Eventually, Nathan joined his brother at the leadership table and assumed co-ownership of Wise Builders Remodeling, Inc. Today, he says his favorite parts of his job are interacting with clients and bringing their dreams to life. “I love making a space completely different than it was before. It’s very fulfilling to take a bathroom that hasn’t been touched in 60 years, turn it into a modern spa and see the genuine appreciation the client has for the finished product. For me, it’s not just about executing the job—it’s also about providing a great experience.”
Originally from Los Angeles, Nathan moved to the Bay Area in 2017 and spent a couple of years in Santa Clara before settling in San Jose, where he currently lives with his wife, Danielle, and their newborn son, Jay. As a Southern California transplant, he says he appreciates the simplicity of life in the South Bay. “It just feels like home here—the people are amazing and I couldn’t be happier. Plus, as someone who used to commute in L.A., the traffic is much more manageable.”
Outside of work, Nathan devotes most of his free time to his family, which is a new yet altogether welcome change of pace from his previous lifestyle. “Everything changed when I had my son, so now I just like to come home and spend time with him,” he affirms. “I also love watching Danielle interact with him and become a mother. Maybe I’m still in the early phase, but it’s amazing to witness that every day. We keep a happy house filled with a lot of laughter. We also have the blessing of living in California, so we try to stay active and get outdoors as much as we can. Personally, I’m addicted to golf. It’s great because I get to spend time outside with friends and it’s not just a quick experience—we spend an entire day at a beautifully manicured park playing a difficult yet very rewarding game.”
When it comes to professional advice, Nathan advocates for the importance of doing your homework. “Choosing a builder is an important decision—we’re talking about tens of thousands of dollars, so if you make the wrong decision, you’re going to find yourself in a bad situation,” he offers. “People don’t remodel twice in their lives, so the determining factor is the builder you choose. The right builder is going to use the right materials to give you something that lasts.”
When asked what his first move might be if he retired tomorrow, Nathan gives a pragmatic answer that exemplifies his lifelong work ethic. “The first thing I would do is travel the world, but I’m a working class individual, so after about two weeks, I would be itching to get back out there,” he says. “I always need a job or business to keep me occupied and stimulated.”
Ask Me Anything!
Q: What are your favorite sports teams?
A: The San Francisco 49ers and the Golden State Warriors. Even though I was born and raised in L.A., my roots are in the Bay so that’s who I represent.
Q: What’s the most death-defying feat you’ve ever attempted?
A: Navigating a hostile village getting rocks and Molotov cocktails thrown at me while trying to find an exit area.
Q: What’s the most memorable thing a client did on a project?
A: We were renovating a home in Cupertino, and as we were doing the demolition, the client mentioned the previous owner worked for a “time capsule safe” company, so he thought there might be one hidden somewhere. Sure enough, a couple of days later, one of my guys sent me a photo of a time capsule embedded in the concrete of the first floor foundation. When we opened it, we found a bunch of cool photos and a watch from the 1940s. The client actually gave me an army brigade metal pin that was in there, and I still have it.
Q: If you could talk to anyone living or dead, who would it be?
A: Kobe Bryant. I grew up a Lakers fan and loved his “first in the gym, last to leave” mentality. I think that’s an important mindset to have in business. You need to have the same hunger that you had when you started in order to keep growing.
