Moises Rodriguez: Better Every Day

From a young age, Moises Rodriguez knew he was destined to work with cars. “I always liked playing with cars when I was a kid and I was mesmerized by the idea of how they work,” he says. “When I was 15, I started working as a helper in different auto shops. Once I got enough experience, I started having this internal feeling that I was ready to do it by myself. I was already in charge of other shops for someone else, so I thought, ‘Why not start my own?’ In 2011, a close friend helped me finance a loan and that’s how I was able to buy AutoShield Collision.”
Today, Moises says the most rewarding part of his job is seeing people’s reactions to his work. “I love seeing the customer’s expression when they come and pick up their car. They’re often really surprised because they didn’t think their car could look like new again. It just fulfills me to know I’m doing something important that makes people feel good.”
Originally from Mexico, Moises moved to the Bay Area in 1998 and currently resides in San Jose with his wife, Sandra, and their three children. He says his favorite part of life in the South Bay is its proximity to a variety of opportunities. “You can find and do almost everything here. It’s a great place to live and work.”
Outside of work, Moises dedicates most of his free time to his family. “Sandra and I like being involved in everything our kids are doing and make sure they feel our support,” he says. “We’re careful to let them make their own decisions, though, because we want them to learn how to overcome challenges and keep going on their own.” When he’s not making memories with his wife and kids, Moises finds time for hobbies like reading, watching sports and listening to music.
When it comes to a personal or professional philosophy, Moises believes in the importance of consistency. “I always tell myself to be consistent,” he affirms. “If I can get one percent better every day, I consider that a success.”

Q: What’s your favorite sports team?
A: The Golden State Warriors.
Q: Have you ever read a book more than once?
A: I’ve read “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill four or five times.
Q: If you could immediately travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
A: Mexico, even though I’m from there. It’s full of beautiful people and magical places with a rich history.
Q: What’s your favorite local restaurant?
A: Johnny’s in Half Moon Bay
