Milo Makarewicz: Family Business
By Matt Solis, Editor
When asked how he ended up as an insulation professional, Milo Makarewicz credits the influence of his late father. “I’m originally from Wrocław in Poland, but my dad actually worked in the insulation industry in California, so when I started coming to visit him when I was 13 years old, I would help him with little projects here and there,” he explains. “That’s how I got involved in the family business—I would come back every year on vacation and continue working with him.”
Milo relocated to the United States after he finished college and started working as an estimator for a local insulation company. Eventually, he gained enough experience to earn his contractor’s license and started entertaining the idea of going off on his own. “I got more comfortable talking to people and explaining the services that I could provide, so I decided to give it a try,” he remembers. “I started AtticElite Insulation Solutions in 2019 and we’ve been going strong ever since.”
Today, Milo says his favorite part of his job is interacting with customers and helping them improve their homes. “It’s very satisfying when I’m able to remove someone’s old insulation and replace it with something that solves their problems. A lot of our clients have gone through a long process of hiring different people, so when we’re able to get everything done in basically one day, they’re always very happy.”
Milo moved to the Bay Area in 2016 and currently resides in Los Gatos with his wife and two children. He says his favorite parts of life in the South Bay are the temperate climate and proximity to nature. “I love the weather and being so close to the beach, and it’s just nice to live in a small city where I can run into my neighbors at the local coffee shop.”
Outside of work, Milo dedicates most of his free time to his family, but he also makes room for a few favorite pastimes. “I’ve always been interested in art—I went to college for interior design, so I like working on the inside of our home,” he says. “When I need to relax, I usually work out or go for a run.”
When asked what his life might look like if he retired tomorrow, Milo says he would shift his focus to those who matter the most. “I would definitely spend more time with my family if I could retire. I think the first thing we would do is go on a long vacation.”
