Micah Jackson-Sattler: Finding the Spark
By Matt Solis, Editor
Some electricians find their way into the field from a related branch of the construction industry, but for Micah Jackson-Sattler, his professional path was clear from an early age. “My family owned an electrical company when I was a kid, so I grew up in the industry,” he explains. “I worked for the company throughout high school, but then I went off to college and ended up being a successful student athlete in Oregon. I played a bit of arena football after graduating, but when my wife and I decided to move back to the Bay Area so she could continue going to school, I started working for the family business again and grew to love it. Four years later, I got my electrical contractor license and started taking on small jobs. Eventually, I realized I needed a more flexible schedule because my wife and I were starting a family, so I went out on my own in 2012.”
Today, as owner of Micah Electric Company, Micah says his favorite part of his job is educating his customers about the latest advancements in the electrical industry. “I love teaching our clients about their electrical systems and showing them how to improve safety at their homes or businesses. I’m always trying to come up with creative, cost-effective solutions to their issues. That way, they can have great electrical systems but they don’t have to completely redo everything from the ground up.”
Born and raised in the Bay Area, Micah currently lives in Oakland with his wife, Anoush, and their three children. He says his favorite part of life in the East Bay is the wide-ranging diversity of his surroundings. “I love all the different cultures we have here, not to mention the older homes and great architecture. Whenever I work on those homes, I always try to maintain the vibes even when I’m updating them with newer technology like batteries and smart systems.”
Outside of work, Micah devotes most of his free time to his family. “My kids play soccer and enjoy singing and going to plays, so we try to give them a taste of different types of things,” he says. “We also like taking them to the beach and doing outdoor activities like hiking, bike riding, and paddleboarding.” When he’s not making memories with his family, Micah scratches his competitive itch by playing in a softball league and doing bootcamp workouts with Anoush and their friends.
In his life and career, Micah espouses the virtues of living by the Golden Rule. “I treat every client how I would want to be treated in the same situation,” he affirms. “Ultimately, it’s about showing compassion and treating people with respect.”
When asked what his life might look like if he retired tomorrow, Micah says he would probably opt for a change of scenery. “I’d love to take my family to live in another country for a year or so. Maybe we’d end up on a farm or something, just so we could enjoy a different lifestyle than the Bay Area.”
