JC Rodriguez: Always On the Move
By Matt Solis
JC Rodriguez may have entered the moving industry on a whim, but the moment he saw what the job entailed and considered the long-term potential, he knew he had found his professional calling. “One of my friends was driving an 18-wheeler at the time, and he actually introduced me to the moving industry,” he remembers. “One day, he invited me to help him do some work and I fell in love with it. From the very first impression, I decided this was the job for me.”
JC spent the following years diversifying his skills and ended up specializing in recruiting and training employees for various moving companies, but after a few frustrating situations, he decided his time was better spent on an endeavor of his very own. “I was building the reputations of all these companies, but sometimes the owners would decide to sell them anyway,” he explains. “Eventually, I thought, ‘Why spend time building someone else’s company when I could build my own?’ That’s when JC Express Movers was born.”
Today, JC says his favorite part of his job remains the same as when he started in the industry more than three decades ago. “I love doing the actual moving. I’m a very active person, so I always have to be moving around and doing something, which is why this job is the perfect fit.”
A longtime resident of Northern California, JC currently lives in Antioch with his wife, Sarai, and their two young children, Genesis and Matthew. “We’re a pretty simple family—I work, my wife helps me and our kids go to private school,” he offers. “We spend a lot of time with them on the weekends, doing things like swimming and taking them to martial arts practice.” When he’s not with his family, JC also makes time for personal hobbies like fishing, swimming and lifting weights.
In his life and career, JC emphasizes the importance of being honest with everyone he encounters. “Whether it’s with friends, customers or people I meet on the street, I’m always transparent about where I’m coming from,” he says. “I put God as my first priority, so living with honesty is very important to me.”
When asked what his life might look like if he retired tomorrow, JC has trouble envisioning a future that doesn’t include a full work schedule. “I’m not sure what I would do because I’m a busy person and I don’t really think about stopping,” he says. “Maybe I would buy a boat so I could do some more fishing.”
