Isaiah Velasquez: Finding the Way
By Matt Solis, Editor
Isaiah Velasquez first became interested in the heating and cooling industry over a decade ago, when he was working on a construction project and saw a group of technicians handling duct fittings and sheet metal. “It kind of interested me and the rest is history,” he says. “I started working on the residential side and did that for five years before switching to commercial and industrial HVAC. I actually spent a lot of time working for NASA at Moffett Field.”
Although Isaiah appreciated the unique experience of working on NASA’s large-scale mechanical systems, the grueling commute from Monterey to Santa Clara County led him to reconsider his professional direction. “I used to spend up to six hours on the road every day, and one day I just thought to myself, ‘Why don’t I get my license so I don’t have to do this anymore?’ I had a lot of experience and I’m a people-person, so I knew I could do it.”
Isaiah established Monterey Bay Heating and Cooling in 2023, and today, he says his favorite part of his job is working alongside his family members and mentoring newcomers to the trade. “I like training people who don’t know anything about HVAC but want to learn. Building relationships with customers is also great. I love walking into someone’s home, making them feel comfortable and solving problems that they thought were impossible.”
A longtime resident of Gonzales, Isaiah appreciates the small, peaceful atmosphere of life in Monterey County. “Gonzales is quiet and everyone keeps to themselves, which I like,” he says. “It’s just a relaxing place to live and raise a family. My wife and I have a one-year-old son and another on the way. I work seven days a week so I’m pretty busy, but I make it a point to spend time with them whenever I can.”
When it comes to a personal or professional philosophy, Isaiah adheres to an age-old credo: Where there’s a will, there’s a way. “I believe no job is too difficult to figure out—it just comes down to how badly you want it,” he offers. “I’m also a big believer in trying to stay happy every day. It can be tough because my job is stressful, but I always keep that in mind.”
When asked what his life might look like if he retired tomorrow, Isaiah says he would make use of the free time to add some balance to his life. “I would start by spending more time with my family and tackling some home improvement projects, but at the end of the day, my goal is to travel the world. We only have one life to live, so I want to see what else is out there.”
