Irvin Bahena: A Family Affair
By Matt Solis, Editor
Growing up around his father’s business, Irvin Bahena says it was only natural for him to get involved in the roofing industry. “My dad and uncles have been doing roofing since I was born, so I’ve always been around it,” he affirms. “I joined my dad’s company when I was 16 and I’ve been doing this work ever since. My family has been doing roofing for decades now, so it’s all we know.”
Today, as treasurer of Dynamic Roofing Inc., Irvin says that even though he sometimes misses the hands-on side of roofing, he’s content to help his clients succeed from a different vantage point. “Working up on roofs was hard, but it was also fun to spend time with my brother and uncles. Now I mostly work in the office, so I’m focused on building trust with our customers. I aim to educate them on materials and products rather than being a salesperson. It’s fulfilling to see how grateful and happy they are when we complete their projects.”
Irvin was born in Redding, but he moved to the Bay Area with his family when he was two, so he considers himself a lifelong local. As such, he has a deep appreciation for the abundant variety that the region offers. “I love the diversity of the people in our community,” he says. “I really like exploring and trying new foods, so being able to do that while meeting cool people from different races and religions is awesome.”
Outside of work, Irvin likes to split his free time between staying active and relaxing with his favorite form of entertainment. “I love working out, so I make that a priority by hitting the gym six days a week,” he details. “When the weather cooperates, I like spending time outdoors, whether it’s hiking, running or exploring the reservoir by my house. Being outside and active is important to me, but I also like staying in and playing video games.”
When it comes to a professional philosophy, Irvin lives by the principle of treating others with good faith. “When I’m working with clients, especially elderly people, I imagine how I would feel if it were my own parent or grandparent in that position,” he explains. “I never want to take advantage of someone or leave them feeling ripped off, so I prioritize transparency and honesty in all my dealings. I just want our clients to trust that they’re getting the best possible service.”
When asked the first thing he’d do if he retired tomorrow, Irvin says he would pack his bags for an extended international trip, starting with an Eastern locale that holds a special place in his heart. “I’ve been fascinated with Japanese culture since I was a kid and I’ve always wanted to go there, so if I retired tomorrow, I would probably fly to Japan and stay there for a month. After that, I’d move on to somewhere like Greece. I love Mediterranean food, so that would be awesome.”
