Guy Kritshtein: A Solid Base
By Matt Solis, Editor
Guy Kritshtein’s entry into the remodeling industry began at an early age. “When I was 13, I started working for my grandpa, who was a contractor,” he remembers. “I started as a general worker and helped with flooring. It was more of a summer job at the time, but it laid the foundation for everything that came later.”
Guy’s early exposure to the construction trade gave him a solid base, and by 1998, he officially started working in the industry. After spending several years working with family in Los Angeles, he decided it was time to open his own business. “I always knew I wanted to have my own company,” he says. “Over the years, I learned a lot about what to do and what not to do. Eventually, I met my wife and my father-in-law, who is also a contractor. We started working together and that led to opening NuHome Remodeling in 2018.”
Today, Guy’s passion for his work remains evident. “It’s hard to pick a favorite part of the job,” he admits. “I love seeing a project through from the start, when it’s just framing and rough materials, all the way to the finished product. For me, the entire journey is exciting.”
Guy moved from Southern California to the Bay Area in 2017 and currently resides in San Jose, where he appreciates the temperate weather and geographic convenience of life in the South Bay. “Everything is close by, including the airport, so I can avoid commuting all the way to San Francisco,” he says. “It’s just a great place to live.”
Guy’s home life is about to get busier, as he and his wife are expecting their first child, but he tries to maintain an active lifestyle whenever possible. “I love playing soccer and snowboarding, and my wife and I like to travel—we have a camper so we spend a lot of time outdoors,” he details. “I also play a little bit of music, but the biggest thing I do to unwind is fix things around my house. It’s funny, doing household work like fixing the water heater actually clears my mind and helps me relax.”
When it comes to a guiding philosophy, Guy values time above all else. “Life is short and time is the only thing we can’t buy,” he reflects. “You have to use it wisely because that’s the one thing you’ll miss in the end.”
When asked what his life might look like if he retired tomorrow, Guy doesn’t foresee much of a change. “I would probably just go back to work,” he laughs. “I don’t think I’ll ever retire—I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing without definition.”
