Anita Hodzic: Clean Living

Anita Hodzic’s entry into the house cleaning industry began almost by accident. “In 2003, I was working in HR and accounting when I noticed that a lot of my friends and coworkers were looking for help around the house,” she explains. “My mom and aunt weren’t working at the time and they were great at housework, so I started referring work to them. That’s where it all started.”
After the birth of her first child in 2009, Anita decided not to return to full-time work and began taking on cleaning jobs herself. Four years later, she officially launched BA House Cleaning and transitioned from casual side jobs to running a business. Today, she says her favorite parts of her job are the personal connections she makes with both clients and employees. “I love interacting with people and seeing them happy, whether it’s employees who enjoy their work or customers who no longer have to worry about cleaning their homes.”
A resident of the Bay Area since the late ’90s, Anita currently lives in Castro Valley with her husband and their three daughters, where they enjoy the small-town feel and family-friendly atmosphere of life in the East Bay. “We’re a very busy household,” she says. “All of our kids play soccer, so I spend a lot of time shuttling them to practice and attending their games.” When she’s not supporting her daughters’ extracurricular activities, Anita also makes time for personal hobbies like traveling and cooking.
When asked what her life might look like if she retired tomorrow, Anita says she would start a new chapter in a cherished locale. “I think I would move to a tropical place like Kauai. We vacation on Maui pretty regularly, but it’s more of a tourist spot. There’s a lot more room on Kauai, so it would be a very relaxing place to live.”

A: Soccer.

A: Greece. I love tropical weather and beaches.

A: A night owl.

A: Thanksgiving. I love to cook and family is important to me, so I like everything about it.
