Andrew Summers: Puzzle Solver
By Matt Solis, Editor
Andrew Summers may have started his HVAC career as an industry outsider, but his professional acumen and willingness to learn made him a quick study. “I’ve always liked working with my hands and I wanted to get into the HVAC industry, so when I heard Hometown Heating & Air Conditioning was looking for employees, I hopped right on the bus,” he explains. “Hometown taught me everything—they sent me to different classes and supplied what I needed to learn about HVAC work.”
Andrew spent a year and a half as a technician before rising to the position of installation and operations manager. Today, he says his favorite part of his job is interacting with clients and helping them achieve their heating and air conditioning goals. “Working a desk job was never my thing—I wanted to be out and about, talking to clients and hearing their life stories. I also love puzzles, so being a technician is great because I’m always getting to the root of problems and figuring out how to solve them. It’s the perfect job for me.”
A lifelong resident of Fairfield, Andrew expresses his appreciation for the convenience of life in the North Bay. “I love the placement of Fairfield,” he says. “We’re not too far away from mountains, cities and beaches, so it’s a great middle area to venture from.”
Outside of work, Andrew devotes most of his free time to his wife and their three boys. “We have a 13-year-old, a 10-year old and a two-year-old, so things are pretty hectic right now,” he laughs. “We’re all over the place with sporting events, school trips, art classes, guitar lessons…it never stops!”
Andrew also makes time for personal hobbies like camping and fishing when he gets the opportunity, but ultimately, he finds that most of his post-work enjoyment comes from spending time with his family. “My days are pretty long, so I like going home and having dinner with my wife and kids,” he affirms. “We’ll wrap up the day with homework and bath time for the little one, and sometimes we’ll watch a movie together, which is always nice.”
