Knowing how to turn off your water supply in an emergency can save from CR damage, especially if there is a burst pipe, overflowing plumbing fixture, or hidden leak. First, locate your main water shutoff valve at the house. It's typically found in front of or on the side of your house and possibly in the basement.
There is also a shutoff found at your street, but it's best to leave this one alone. Next, turn the valve clockwise to shut off the water if the valve is difficult to turn by hand. It's best to call a plumber. Finally, open a faucet to check if the water has stopped. It's a good idea to practice this regularly.
So you're prepared in an emergency. This can save you from costly repairs and make you ready for anything.
