Video: Preparing Your Home Exterior for Winter

MOUNTAIN VIEW — Host, Sarah Rutan: A simple annual step can go a long way toward protecting your home exterior from winter weather. To learn more, we’re in Mountain View with Frank Hampton of Stanford Painting, speaking on behalf of Diamond Certified Expert Contributor Jay Furlong.

Frank Hampton: Before the rain comes, you want to prepare your house for the wintertime when it gets here. To get your house ready for winter, you want to go over all exposed surfaces, such as wood, any holes on the house, you want to patch those, you want to prime the exposed wood so it doesn’t absorb water and lift the paint.

By caulking all gaps and openings, that just helps the paint last because the water does not get into those cracks or holes in the future. And again, always two coats on your house.
