When choosing a contractor for a roof replacement project, one of the most crucial aspects to consider is the warranty coverage being offered. A strong roofing warranty provides peace of mind and ensures any future issues (material failures, installation defects, etc.) can be addressed without significant out-of-pocket expenses.
Before you hire a roofing contractor for your project, check to see if they’re certified by the manufacturer of the roofing materials being installed. A certified roofer can properly register your warranty and ensure you receive full coverage. There are two types of warranties to consider:
Material warranties
These warranties cover defects in the roofing materials themselves. Many modern roofing materials come with warranties that last up to 50 years, so even if your contractor goes out of business, you can still rely on the manufacturer for coverage.
Workmanship warranties
These warranties cover the quality of the installation. Even the best materials won’t perform well if they’re improperly installed, so you should look for a workmanship warranty of at least 10 years to protect yourself from potential errors.
