Motorization for Window Treatments

PLEASANTON — One of the most exciting trends in the window covering industry today is motorization, which allows homeowners to operate their window treatments with a mere voice command or touch of a button. While cellular and roller shades are the most common motorized window treatments, it’s possible to motorize blinds, draperies and almost any other window covering product. However, before deciding to incorporate automation, there are a couple of questions you’ll need to consider:

How will you power your motorized window treatments? Your options include primary batteries, rechargeable batteries, wall outlets, direct hardwiring and solar power. If you plan to use a type of battery, be sure to consider accessibility—you don’t want to have to climb a ladder every time your batteries need to be changed or recharged.

How will you operate your motorized window treatments? Do you want to connect them to your smart home system, voice assistant or cellphone? Do you just want to use a remote control? Each of these options is possible, but some are simpler than others.

By having answers to these two questions ahead of time, you and your designer will have a more efficient and productive consultation, and they’ll be able to make the most relevant recommendations for your home.
