A roof is a big investment, and the best way to protect that investment is by implementing ongoing preventive maintenance. Here are three basic roof maintenance tips:
1. Get an annual roof inspection.
Make it a point to have your roof inspected every year before the rainy season starts. This will allow a professional to check the condition of your roof and address any potential issues or needed repairs. That way, you can rest assured that your roof is in fit condition to weather the coming storms.
2. Have your rain gutters cleaned.
Over time, leaves, twigs and other debris can accumulate inside rain gutters. During winter storms, this buildup can create clogs and cause the gutters to leak and overflow, which may result in damage to the roof and siding. To prevent this, hire a professional to clean your gutters prior to the rainy season.
3. Take time to find a quality roofer.
When hiring for roofing repairs and other services, make sure you’re getting the right combination of quality and price. Don’t just hire the cheapest roofer you can find, as this may backfire and result in a higher overall cost. Instead, get bids from at least three different companies, as well as references from past customers. This will allow you to compare apples to apples and help you make an informed final decision.
