When it comes to maintaining a spotless house, sometimes the simplest changes can make the biggest impact. Here are two underrated methods that can help you keep your home cleaner for longer without extra effort.
1. Switch to Microfiber Cloths
Microfiber cloths have been around for a while, but they’re often underused despite their effectiveness. Unlike traditional terry or cotton cloths, microfiber effectively traps dust, dirt and grime, which reduces the need for excessive cleaning products. In fact, just a bit of water and a microfiber cloth can make a significant difference. These cloths are especially useful on glass, leaving streak-free finishes without harsh chemicals.
2. Use Indoor Shoes and Outdoor Shoes
Having different shoes for indoor and outdoor use might seem inconvenient, but it will drastically reduce the amount of dirt and debris you track inside. With less dirt coming in, your floors will stay cleaner longer and you’ll need to mop or vacuum less frequently. This practice is particularly beneficial for carpets, as it helps extend the time between professional cleanings and keeps them looking fresh year-round—especially in the winter when dirt and moisture tend to be an issue.
