Preventive maintenance is the key to ensuring the durability and efficiency of your water heater. Here are two important steps to take to protect your investment:
Annual flushing
To clear out sediment that can cause rust and corrosion, you should completely drain your water heater once a year. If you’re not comfortable doing this yourself, hire a professional plumber to ensure it’s done safely and correctly.
Pressure regulation
Water pressure that’s too high can stress your water heater and plumbing fixtures, leading to potential damage and shorter life spans. Ideally, you should keep the water pressure in your home below 80 psi. This can often be achieved by having a licensed plumber install a pressure reducing valve at the point where your water service enters your home.
