An End to Headlight Glare is Coming!

At first, I thought it was just me. More and more frequently I was bothered by blinding headlights when driving at night. But then I read that many people are griping about car headlights that are too bright. Here’s what’s happening: There are more SUVs and pickups on the road with taller bodies and higher lights, and some newer cars have LED headlights, which are bluer and seem brighter to some people. Also, if a vehicle’s headlamps are slightly out of alignment, the lights won’t beam properly.

Luckily, this problem is being addressed with a new law. A bipartisan infrastructure bill that was recently passed includes a provision for new technology known as “adaptive driving beam” headlights. This would allow you to adjust your LED headlight beams with software so you can reduce glare for other drivers while still being able to light up the road. Look for that feature on new cars. Sounds like a “win-win” for all of us!
